Our dear Kramer passed away in July. Shortly thereafter we were thrilled to make a new addition to the family. Jaxon is another Shawndee Airedale terrier. He is following in Kramer’s BIG footsteps — once again I suspect we will have another larger than average Airedale. He is adorable and gives me many laughs per day. As it seems in life, timing is everything… and it seems like he came just at the right time! Thankfully summer is a slower (work) time so I had many chances to be distracted by this cute fuzzy face.

There are a few fellow solo-preneurs who I regularly jaw with. Having these people as sounding boards really make a difference. After all, your spouse and pets can only offer so much business advice and support! Recently we have spoken about tell tale signs your business have solidified. One key sign is when you willingly turn good paying work away, because it a) doesn’t fit your core business b) goes against your personal grain c) doesn’t pay enough or d) you really don’t enjoy working with a particular client.
If you are thinking of going it on your own, or you have already started, you may be tempted to take whatever work comes your way. Hey, you can find all kinds of reasons to talk yourself into something. But think of what you may be missing… the opportunities that fit, the joy of providing services you excel at, and a feeling of mutual satisfaction at the end of a project.
One of my refrains at Ready Aim Inspire! blog for nonprofit organizations is to make sure that you stand for something, and stick to it. This is so true in business. The more focused you are, the better job you can do, the more you work with clients and associates who value you and your skills, and the more you attract others.
So have the courage to stick to it! Close the door and see what window opens next.
